Balconies & Slabs/Decks
These recommendations are related to the protection / rehabilitation of balconies and slabs / decks, i.e. the waterproofing and the protection of concrete from attacks of different nature, such as carbonation, salts and other chemicals brought by pollution.
The protective system must comply with the following criteria:
complete watertightning. No migration of water into the concrete.
no migration of CO2 into the concrete.
elasticity to accept micro fissures without rupture.
light rugosity so that it does not become slippery
durability and easy reparability in case of accidental damages
resistance to :
punching as normally expected on balconies
WATERPROOFING OF SLURRY TRENCH (DIAPHRAGM) WALLS
The Swiss Bank Corp. (Geneva) Case
The construction is made of a concrete diaphragm wall (slurry trench) of a total height of 20 m, of which 17 m are in the water table. Wall thickness is 1.0 m. Walls consist of panels of 2.80 m wide.
Junctions between panels are in a V shape. Water stops have been installed on the total height.
This memorandum details the work procedure for the implementation of a watertight lining geared at stopping any water migration into the basement.
The proposed system is referenced NOR 425P or NOR 451 / NOR 60. NOR 425P, alternatively NOR 451 are used as primer to enhance the adhesion of the lining.
The lining consists of 2 layers of NOR 60, a solventless - 2 component polyurethane polymer with low modulus of elasticity and high adhesion on concrete and steel substrates. These two characteristics allow small fissures in the substrate without leading to the rupture of the lining, i.e. ensuring the continuity of the watertightening system. Performance of the proposed system is known to last over 25 years.
The NOR 60 system used for the watertightening of buried structures has been surveyed then approved by Bureau Veritas in France. This agreement is detailed in Recommendations CCT-1 modified on June 6, 1995.
